THE DETAILS
B2B relationships are evolving fast, with corporate customers expecting ever-increasing levels of service, flexibility and collaboration. Nowhere is this felt more acutely than in customer support and success. Changing expectations mean the days of email tickets and 48-hour response times are over, with support moving to real-time communication, often over platforms like Slack, Microsoft Teams and Discord. At the same time, the lines between support, success, and engineering are blurring, with consistent collaboration needed to drive outcomes for clients.
Plain is spearheading this transformation for B2B software providers with an AI-powered platform that enables seamless, cross-functional support through all communication channels from a single space.
Companies including Sanity, Laravel, Stytch, and Raycast already use the platform to consolidate customer support workflows and speed up delivery. Now, Plain has announced $15 million in Series A funding to accelerate its mission, expand into customer success, and add new features and deeper integrations. The company will open its first US office in San Francisco and plans to double its workforce across sales, marketing, design, and engineering over the next six months.
“Support is no longer just about closing tickets – it’s about building long-term relationships,” explains Simon Rohrbach, Co-founder and CEO of Plain. “The migration to collaborative, real-time channels is changing the way businesses interact with customers. Plain is the platform designed for this new reality, helping companies deliver support that’s fast, effective, and aligned with their customers’ needs.”
As B2B support evolves, Plain has identified three major shifts that are redefining the way businesses engage with their customers:
- A shift to real-time, collaborative channels: Companies are moving from email and ticketing systems to high-touch platforms like Slack and Microsoft Teams, where conversations feel more personal and immediate.
- Collaboration across teams: The lines between customer support and success are blurring. Teams are working more closely with engineering and product to solve issues, increasing the need for platforms that foster teamwork.
- AI-powered workflows: To stay ahead of customer expectations, companies are adopting tools that automate repetitive tasks, extract insights, and adapt in real-time.
Addressing these shifts, Plain enables enterprises to consolidate high-touch communication channels alongside traditional platforms like email and chat, creating a unified platform for customer conversations. By fostering collaboration between support, engineering, and customer success teams, Plain helps businesses resolve support issues faster. Its AI-powered workflows automate repetitive tasks, draft detailed responses, and extract product insights from customer interactions, empowering teams to understand customers’ needs and deliver better support.
Founded by Simon Rohrbach and Matt Vagni, who helped scale Deliveroo from 10 to 2,000 employees, Plain draws on its founders’ deep experience in designing systems for high-growth businesses. Simon led Deliveroo’s 40-person content, research, and design team, while Matt played a key role in building its design systems and internal tooling. This hands-on expertise shapes Plain’s approach to modernizing corporate, B2B support workflows as employees increasingly work off email and in new communication channels.
The new funding round was led by Battery Ventures, with continued participation from Index Ventures and Connect Ventures, who co-led Plain’s $6 million seed round in 2022.
