David Grainger - Venture Partner
David joined index in 2012 as a Venture Partner in the Life Sciences team, and is based in the London office.
Until December 2011, David was a Principal Investigator in the Department of Medicine, Cambridge University, where he led an internationally-recognized group exploring the molecular basis of chronic inflammation, with particular interest in cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. He has also been responsible for several spin-out companies from the University, including FingerPrint Diagnostics, Pronostics and the Index portfolio company Funxional Therapeutics, where he was CSO. He is currently Executive Chairman of Total Scientific, an out-sourced drug development company based in Cambridge, UK.
David holds a first class Honours degree in Natural Sciences (Biochemistry) from Cambridge University and PhD in vascular cell biology also from Cambridge University. He has published more than 80 papers in leading journals including Science, Nature and Nature Medicine, and is an inventor on more than 150 patents relating to healthcare innovations.
