Biography

Gerry founded Index Securities, the predecessor firm to Index Ventures, in 1976. During that period he created the first option on the Dow Jones index and built one of the largest independent brokerage houses in the Swiss franc bond grey market. In 1992, he recruited his eldest son, Neil, to join him and together they launched the firm's foray into technology investing. Over the next four years Gerry and Neil sourced, structured and placed over 30 PIPEs and built a reputation as expert technologists and investors.  The Index pilot fund was raised in 1996 which for the first time included private companies in the investment strategy. Over the next few years, the key members of the Index Ventures team were recruited. In 1999 Gerry retired from an active role but to this day remains present in all strategic decisions and he is Partner Emeritus.
